William Beaumont was born on November 21, 1785. William Beaumont died on April 25, 1853 at Saint Louis Montana. William Beaumont was an army doctor. William Beaumont did a lot of research on human digestion. On June 6, 1822, a person named Alexis St. Martin was a Canadian. He died at the age of 83 years old. He got into a Hunting accident and got shot. William Beaumont was told that he has to do surgery on Alexis. William Beaumont was a really good surgeon so Alexis was able to recover. Alexis recovered with a permanent hole in his stomach. When authorities threatened to send the man back to Canada, William supported him in his house for 7 years. While he was at his house, since there was a gaping whole near the his stomach he did some research on the human stomach. One thing that William had noticed was that digestion slowed when St Martin had a fever. Beaumont had performed 7 free surgeries on St Martin over the course of 7 months. William Beaumont did all of his research on an island called Mackinac. William Beaumont will do his research on the stomach for another 10 years.
